frequently asked questions
DO YOU TEACH KIDS?
Typically, I teach students who are 16+. I do make exceptions to this depending on previous experience & current abilities.
DO YOU TEACH 30 MINUTE LESSONS?
My lessons are a minimum of 45 minutes.
DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SING BEFORE STARTING LESSONS?
Typically, I work with students looking to improve their voices and/or technique. While no previous experience with lessons is required, my skillset as a vocal coach is best utilized by folks who already have a musical ear and can match pitch.
HOW DOES YOUR SUBSIDY PROGRAM WORK?
I facilitate a subsidy program that students can both access and contribute to. If you would like to access the subsidy fund to help cover the cost of your lessons, please email me so we can work something out/go over the details.
Typically, a $25 subsidy fee is automatically included in each full-time students’ tuition. This fee helps to cover nearly 50% of one subsidized voice lesson, I then donate the remaining subsidized lesson cost as an in-kind service. I also accept sponsors to help fund this program!

ONLINE SINGING LESSONS? HOW DOES THAT WORK?
Since moving online at the start of the pandemic, I learned and re-learned the best way to offer a virtual lesson. I've ironed out the kinks and am confident in saying that a virtual lesson is just as valuable as an in-person lesson. Of course attending lessons in-person offers that "routine" practice out of the house and provides a real person-to-person energy exchange, but in terms of teaching and practice, they are very comparable! I would highly recommend an online lesson so long as you have access to reliable internet, and 1-2 devices with the zoom app downloaded.
DO I HAVE TO BE LOCATED IN HALIFAX TO TAKE LESSONS?
No! I offer virtual lessons which can be taken anywhere around the world given it works with the time zones and with sufficient wireless service. I have worked with people in PEI, New Brunswick, Ontario, New York, Los Angeles, and France.
WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC DO YOU TEACH?
I teach contemporary vocal styles including pop, folk, R&B, jazz, and musical theatre. I use my background in classical music to inform technique and vocal warm ups both learning and unlearning different classical techniques and how to transform them into healthy pop/musical theatre styles, and then we use some of those techniques and apply them to the songs we are working on.
WHERE CAN I FIND YOUR POLICIES AND INVOICING?
Once you have officially registered as a new student, I will email you with this information. For future reference, these are all accessible through a student portal that all of my students use and have access to online resources, scheduling, lesson links, policy and payment information and more.
DO I HAVE TO AUDITION?
No. Once you have filled in the student inquiry form, I will review it and if everything lines up (schedule, goals, fit) then I will take you on. If our availabilities do not align, I will add you to my waitlist.
